A while ago, during the Golden Week due to COVID-19, I did a DIY project to add an outlet in the storage room.
Note that I have a second-class electrical worker license.I heard that SNS might get chaotic if I don’t properly mention this, so just in case
Necessary Items
Item | Purchase Link |
---|---|
Embedded Outlet | Amazon Rakuten |
Gypsum Board Clamps | Amazon Rakuten |
Gypsum Board Saw | Amazon Rakuten |
VVF Cable | Amazon Rakuten |
- Drill for making holes in the wall (electric or manual)
- Screwdriver (electric or manual)
Securing the Power Source
Since there is an outlet directly behind the place where I want to install the outlet in the storage room,
I will borrow the power from there.
Deciding the Drilling Position
Remove the outlet on the back side of the existing storage room and check the wall on the storage room side.
At this time, attach a magnet to the position where you are likely to make a hole and
you can find the drilling position by pulling it with a magnet from the other side.
Making the Hole for Installation
First, make a hole with a drill, then enlarge the hole with a gypsum board saw.
The hole was successfully made.
Getting Power from the Existing Outlet
Since the existing outlet has 100V voltage, be sure to
turn off the breaker and confirm there is no electricity before working.
Insert the VVF cable into the back of the existing outlet.
Connect the storage room side in the same way.
Use gypsum board clamps to secure this outlet.
Confirming the Power
Once successfully connected, raise the breaker and check the voltage.
Completion
Attach the decorative plate to complete.
Thanks to the outlet installation, I can now charge the vacuum cleaner in the storage room and it looks neat.
